Have I Done All I Should?

John 13:15-17

"For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. (16) Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. (17) If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them."

INTRODUCTION

Some Important Questions That Demand Serious and Truthful Answers

Have I asked the Lord:

(Acts 9:6) "What wilt thou have me to do?"

Have I realized the power of God in my life to accomplish what He has for me to do?

(Phil 4:13) "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

Or am I cutting off His power through me by limiting Him with my doubting and defeated attitude?

Have I rendered unto God that which is due Him?

(Luke 20:25) "And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's"

Let's look at what can keep us from doing all of what we should do concerning the Lord.

I. Do I Have Misplaced Affections?

(Col 3:2) "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth"

A. Where are the affections of my heart centered?

(Matt 6:21) "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

B. Do I realize the value in having my affection (love) directed toward God?

(Psa 91:14) "Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name"

C. Does my affection make me to follow after the things of the Spirit or the things of the flesh?

(Rom 8:5-8) "For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. (6) For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. (8) So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God"

II. Is My Heart Right in the Sight of God?

(Acts 8:21) "Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God"

A. Am I fighting against God and kicking against the pricks?

(Acts 5:39) "But if it be of God, ye can not overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God."

B. Am I offending God?

(Acts 24:16) "And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men."

C. Do I have my priorities right?

(Matt 6:33-34) "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (34) Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

III. Am I Looking Lovingly to the Second Coming?

(2 Tim 4:8) "Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing"

A. Signs of His coming everywhere.

(Luke 21:28) "And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh."

B. Is my house in order?

(Gen 18:19) "For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him."

C. Are my family and friends saved?

(Ps 142:4) "I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul"

D. Am I ready for His coming?

(2 Tim 4:6 8) "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. (7) I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: (8) Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
