SUBJ: Defending The Faith In The Last Days

Introduction:
There is an attack today on the great fundamental and foundational truths of the Word of God.

The problem is not from without, but from within the Church of God.

(Jude 4 KJV)  "For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ."

The Faith that is the only way to God is openly denied by those that profess to be Believers!

(Jude 1:11 KJV)  "Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core."

This denial has reached into our: schools, radio, TV, writings and the worse place of all in our pulpits!

(Isa 56:11 KJV)  "Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter."

We need to rise  up and . . . ď . . . earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." (Jude 3b KJV)

I want you to notice the word ďearnestlyĒ

There must be action and we need to do it three ways:

I. By Living It

(2 Cor 5:17 KJV)  "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

A. There is no greater defense of the Faith than a life that proves it by living what you profess!

B. That changed life demonstrated daily by the actions that others see.

1. Attitude
2. Behavior
3. Habits
4. Forgiveness
5. Love
6. Reconciliation
7. Going that second mile

(1 Cor 9:27 KJV)  "But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway."

II. By Proclaiming It

(Rom 1:16 KJV)  "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."

A. Proclaiming the TRUTH  will kill error quicker than any other means.

(John 8:32 KJV)  "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

B. Proclaim the Word of God with Authority and not with apology!

(Heb 4:12 KJV)  "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

C. When the Word of God is being changed to fit man and his desires, we should be more bold to proclaim His Word.

(1 Tim 4:1 KJV)  "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;"

D. Too many Christians are willing to let others do their thinking.

(2 Tim 2:15 KJV)  "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

III. By Paying the Price To Be Misunderstood

(Acts 5:41-42 KJV)  "And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. {42} And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ."

A. Our forefathers died for their faith.

B. Why canít we live for ours?

C. A little persecution of rejection, insults or door slamming and we are ready to give up!

D. Family puts pressure upon us and we are willing to change our convictions.

E. We donít mind being secret disciples, but not open disciples.

F. Iím not talking about being self-righteous or legalistic, but a simple daily testimony that we have been born again and love Jesus.

Conclusion: How much further will we allow the unbeliever and liberal believer to undermine our faith? How long will we remain silent and let the cause of Christ take a back seat to unbelief? How many more people must be lost or deceived before Godís people will . . . ď . . . earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." (Jude 3b KJV)
