TEXT:  Mark 15:1

SUBJ: "BINDING THE HANDS OF JESUS"

INTRODUCTION:

1. Here we read of how the enemies of Jesus bound Him in preparation for sending Him  to Pilate:

(Mark 15:1 KJV)  "And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate."

2. As we read this, it is easy for our hearts to be filled with sadness, and even with a touch of "righteous indignation" for that crowd that bound Jesus in such a way.

3. And yet, there are those today who are guilty of binding the hands of Jesus in a "figurative" way!

To see what I mean, consider some of the various ways we can be guilty today of "Binding The Hands of Jesus"

I. BY REFUSING THE GOSPEL

(Heb 11:6 KJV)  "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

 A. “. . . he that cometh to God must believe . . . “

1. An open invitation to come to God for Salvation.

2. A demonstration of the Great Love of God for sinners.

(2 Pet 3:9 KJV)  "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."

B. But when one refuses to obey the gospel!

1. The hands of Jesus are bound!

2. There is no way a person can then receive the salvation that the death, burial and resurrection of Christ secured for repenting sinners!

3. For him or her, the death of Jesus is in  vain!

C. Has your unbelief bound the hands of Jesus concerning your SALVATION!

D. Will your eternal fate be?

(Rev 20:15 KJV)  "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."

II. BY REFUSING TO BE TRANSFORMED INTO A NEW CREATURE IN CHRIST

(Rom 12:1-2 KJV)  "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. {2} And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

A. Transformed - “To bring about a radical change.”

(2 Cor 5:17 KJV)  "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

B. A new life of obedience unto the Lord.

C. A life that involves:

1. Time
2. Talent
3. Tithe

Col 3:6 KJV)  "For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:"

D. Neglecting the transforming power of the Word of God, and we are just as guilty of "binding the hands of Jesus" as were those who delivered Him to Pilate!

E. Is your disobedience binding the hands of Jesus in your life?

III. BY REFUSING TO DO OUR PART IN THE CHURCH

(Eph 4:16 KJV)  "From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love."

A. As members of one another, we are to care for one another.

B. Jesus could do so much more for His church, if only more of the members did THEIR part!

C. By failing to do our part, we "handicap" the body of Christ?

D. Because of our neglect, apathy, lukewarmness or plain old disobedience:

1. Either the whole Church suffers.

2. Or others are forced to do "double duty" in order to make up the difference?

E. Is your disobedience binding the hands of Jesus?

IV. BY REFUSING TO SHARE THE GOSPEL WITH THE LOST

A. Jesus Has Commissioned His Disciples to Be His "Hands" in Taking the  Gospel to the Lost.

B. In every case of conversion recorded in Acts, Jesus used a disciple to tell the good news.

C. Jesus works the same way today!

D. We hinder Jesus from telling others of His wonderful grace!

E. Every day, countless souls die with no hope of eternal life.

F. This need not be, if more would make the sharing of the gospel the primary concern in their lives!

G. Sadly, in too many cases the primary concern of Christians is the pursuit of pleasure and acquisition of worldly treasures!

H. Are We "Binding the Hands of Jesus" in this Way?

CONCLUSION
Yes, one does not have to literally "bind the hands of Jesus" to be guilty of the same sort of offense that we read about in Mk 15:1; as we have seen, there are many other ways as well!

Why not today, resolve to "loose the hands of Jesus" so that IN us and THROUGH us He may accomplish His full desire?

Which is . . .

a. To SAVE us!

b. To TRANSFORM us!

c. To USE us!
