SUBJ: Overcoming Satanic Attacks

You often hear it said, "It seems I am having more problems with the devil now than I did before I go SAVED.

When there is so many promises of being victorious in Christ, why is it there is so much defeat among God's people?

Were these promises only for those People recorded in the Bible?

Some basic knowledge we need is: (1) The devil does not need to attack you when you belong to him . . . UNSAVED!  (2) But when you get SAVED and decide that you are going to live for God, the spiritual battle begins in earnest.

One should not be surprised when they have problems with the devil.

Even Job the man that God said . . ."There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil." (Job 1:1)

The question is not, "Will I be attacked by the devil?" It rather is, "How can I gain the victory when I am attacked?"

Notice with me in this message the answer to "How Can I Gain the Victory When I Am Attacked by the Devil?

(Job 1:8)  "And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?"

A. Temptation is not a sign that you are a wicked person.
B. It is no sin to be TEMPTED.
C. The SIN is when we yield to TEMPTATION.
D. Was Job contaminated when he was tempted by the devil to curse God?

1. Not at all look again in Job 1:8
2. Now notice what God says after the temptation passes in:

(Job 2:3)  "And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause."

E. God says the same thing about Job when the TEMPTATION had PASTED.

F. Someone has rightly said:  "Life is a grindstone, and whether it wears you down or polishes you up depends on what you are made of."

G. TEMPTATION is merely the instrument that reveals Character or the lack of.

A. Satan may attack through your MATERIAL POSSESSIONS.

(Job 1:3)  "His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east."

1. JOB goes from Millionaire to Pauper in one HOUR!

(Job 1:11)  "But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face."

2. But JOB handles the TEMPTATION by:

(Job 1:21)  "And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD."

3. What would you say if you lost everything in one hour and had nothing in reserve to fall back on?

4. Remember, the devil attacks often in Material Possessions.

B. Satan may attack you through your PHYSICAL HEALTH

1. GOD permitted Satan to touch Job's body with sickness.

(Job 2:7)  "So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown."

2. If you health fails will you complain, accuse God and lose you faith?

3. Or will you be like Job and say,

(Job 2:10)  "But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips."

C. Satan may attack you through your FAMILY

1. Job's wife had lost the same children, the same fortune and was experiencing the same suffering with JOB.

2. Her faith being weaker than Job's, she lost faith in a hurry.

(Job 2:9)  "Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die."

3. This can be the most devastating attack because when the devil can use our own families to tempt us to forsake God we feel  totally helpless unless our faith is in God as was Job's - (See Job 2:10 again).

D. Satan may attack you through MISUNDERSTANDING FRIENDS

1. When his three friends heard about his trouble they came to COMFORT.

2. But when they began to speak it was CONDEMNATION that came forth from their mouths.

A. OVERCOME, the devil by a life of PURITY

(Job 1:8)  "And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?"

B. Overcome the devil by a life of FAITH

(Job 1:22)  "In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly."

C. Overcome the devil by a life EMPOWERED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

(Mat 4:1)  "Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil."

D. Overcome the devil by the WORD OF GOD

(Mat 4:4)  "But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."

(Mat 4:7)  "Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."

(Mat 4:10)  "Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve."

E. The Word of God is our greatest weapon against temptations.

F. But we must read and heed its message to be victorious.

CONCLUSIONS: Here is the key to overcoming temptations of the devil . . .(James 4:7)  "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." In Christ you can be an over comer and not one that yields to temptations from Satan. The choice is yours today.
